1. Copy import_scene_mhx.py and import_hair_obj.py from Makehuman/importers/mhx/blender25x to Blender25/.blender/scripts/add-ons, where Makehuman and Blender25 are the directories where the corresponding programs are located. This step will hopefully be unnecessary in the future.
2. In Blender 2.5, open the File > User Preferences window and navigate to the Add-Ons tab.
3. Enable Import MakeHuman (.mhx). If you want to import hair, enable also Import MakeHuman hair (.obj).
4. MHX files can now be imported from the File > Import menu.
There is a third file in the Makehuman/importers/mhx/blender25x folder, which exports a Blender file to MHX. This has also been made into a plugin, but it is not really intended for public use.
Update: Meta-Androcto told me that the mhx importer should be automatically copied to the Blender distribution, but it does not seem to have happened. Until it does, you need to copy import_scene_mhx.py and import_hair_obj.py from Makehuman/importers/mhx/blender25x/ manually. There are three ways to do this.
1. Copy the files to Blender/.blender/scripts/addons/ (before starting Blender). Once there the add-ons can be enabled as described in the post.
2. Copy the files to Blender/.blender/scripts/io/. The import options are automatically enabled on startup.
3. Load the files into Blender's text editor and run the scripts from there. Once they have run once, the import alternatives are there.
What version of blender should work with this?
ReplyDeleteok, I have done every step described here, and there is no "Add MHX" option in the Add-on's tab
ReplyDeletePlease don't take this comment the wrong way... but until I can import my MakeHuman into Blender, this is basically an etch-a-sketch to me.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I close the program, my model is gone.
I'm glad you're working on nightly builds that will help get all of the bugs out, but could you please focus on getting these files to import?
hi,
ReplyDeletethe current import works very well.
the problem is the script as i tested (from nightly builds) is dependent on .mhx from the build it's bundled with.
I'll get a new nightly build, see how that is & maybe look at a way to do this more easily.
be cause both Blender & Make Human are under heavy development, things change rather quickly.
I am also using the latest svn and I cannot export the model at all. I have tried every combination of button presses. Nothing shows up in ~/makehuman/exports or anywhere else afiact.
ReplyDeleteHi my name is Dusan from Czech republic
ReplyDeleteI love Makehuman nightly but I can not import any files .mhx to blender 2.5
I've done all 3steps you described and nothing.
I believe that there's no problem with my computer(laptop)XP home Dell D830 with C++2008 and
python 2.6 and 3.1
I use both because in blender 2.49 I have no problem to import makehuman files
But in Blender 2.5 I can not do it.I send text from console with hope that someone will help me:
found bundled python: C:\BLENDE.......etc
RNA_string_set:IMPORT_SCENE_OT_makehuman_mhx.filename not found.
RNA_string...............................mhx.directory not found.
File "C:\BLENDE~1\.blender\scripts\io\import_scene_mhx.py", line2128, in execute
readMhxfile<self.properties.patch,
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte in position 28:unexpected code byte
Sorry probably this is something what is possible to manage but Iam not able...
I've tried anything to do that myself but I need help....
Send me detailed way how to set it or what to do to make import from makehuman nightly to blender 2.5 please....
dusan.palka@email.cz
I do not know what I can do wrong....
Also....I can not import to blender 2.5 anything
.obj ....nothing works and both makehuman and blender are the latest releses...
thank you
are there non ascii characters in your path to my documents/makehuman ?
ReplyDeleteHi...I just do quick export from makehuman to my documents/makehuman by 'E'button because any other way of saving or rendering is not possible although I have AQSIS instaled.Than I try to import quick_export-25.mhx to Blender 25.Unfortunately I don't know what means 'ascii characters'
ReplyDeleteThe strange thing is I can not import any kind of files to Blender 25.I've done all- activated addons but after trying import I get just the same default 3d window....anyway thanks for your interest I will have to wait for some magic probably....Jimi Czech rep.
Hi...I found my mistake....thanks to Marc I started to think and the problem was that in the path to 'my documents' was my user name written with the specific marks typic to my language and because of that it was not able to make any import.Thank you and sorry....Now it's everything ok..Jimi
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have no doubt that this is developing into a highly useful application, it is frustrating to no end when I try to actually import a character into blender. For starters, the export tutorial posted on this site: http://sites.google.com/site/makehumandocs/blender-export-and-mhx
ReplyDeleteis now quite out of date. For starters, the import plug-in is now packaged with the blender install, but appears not to work. I first noticed this after following the tutorial on the site up to the point where I discovered that the check-boxes to activate the scripts I had just installed were grayed out. After a CLEAN install, I checked the box to activate the import script, and ran it. It pulled up the GUI and allowed me to browse for the body .mhx file I'd saved (as per instructions), however when I attempted to import the file it declared I had a version .7 filetype (I'm running from the most recently posted stable version on the site)
Where can I find the plugin on Macintosh?
ReplyDeleteusing the latest makehuman and the latest blender i have successfully imported an mhx file. It comes with controls for the bones How do i operate the bones?
ReplyDelete@Sam
ReplyDeleteif you haven't found it yet - right-click on the makehuman application and select "Show Package Contents". the importers are in /contents/resources/importers
Does import hair not work with 2.59 of blender? I cant click the enabled check mark
ReplyDeleteit's the same for me!! impossible to import a mhx file with the last version of blender! everything is enabled!!
ReplyDeleteThe option to enable the addons is shown in the menu, but when I try to actually enable them (clicking the checkbox) nothing happens?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't occur with other addons.
Got the addon working with an old version of Blender... now Blender cannot 'see' the mhx files when I try to import them. Any suggestions?
