The development of particle hairs in MH will be suspended, and replaced by polygonal hairs.
There are several reasons:
1) Particle hairs are hard to export, because there is no standard format for them. So a good hairstyle for MH can be a bad hairstyle for another software that uses, for example, a different type of interpolation.
2) Particle hairs are more complex to handle, talking about gravity, collision, etc..
3) Particle hairs take long to render, and each engine renders them in a different way.
4) Particle hairs are hard to save as a professional, optimized and well textured game oriented hairstyle.
So, we are looking for some good and professional low poly hairs models.
If anyone wants help us, you are welcome.
In the meantime, this is the longhair template which we are working on:

It's a little sad because so much great work has gone into particle hair, but I think this is ultimately the right decision.
ReplyDeleteAlpha6 is great. Can't wait to get a glimpse of the MicHelangelo thing!
Thanks for all the amazing work!
Hurray!! I never thought particle hair was the right way to go. If you're using particles for hair then it's best to make them using the program you're going to be rendering or animating in.
ReplyDeletePolygon hair can look brilliant, has lightning fast render when compared and can be scaled down for game use which is of great interest to me! After my exams I'll give making a few hair meshes a go.
